Review:

Since this came out last year I wanted it but there were always other books that I wanted just that bit more. So when I finally got this for Christmas I started it straight away and it was my first read of 2013. I absolutely loved it! I’d never read anything like it before so it was refreshing. A bit like x-men but in no way am I complaining because I love those films. It sure does start off with a bang.

Dez lost her mum at child birth and since then her dad hasn’t paid much attention to her which is why she rebels. A lot. When she meets Kale she knows he’ll do the trick to annoy her dad. But her dad knows a secret about Kale and Kale hates him. So while on the run they encounter a few strangers, some complicated situations and discover the truth about a lot of things. But you can’t always trust those you think you can.

I love books like these. Where everyone has a different ability and each is as unique as the others. Dez was fantastic, so witty and sarcastic and just bad-ass. She’s stubborn and doesn’t stand for any nonsense. So I guess you can see why I loved her from the start. There are a lot of secrets around her and I enjoyed finding out the answers, I even guessed a few right.

But I think the best character was Kale. I loved him and I think it was because he was so vulnerable and curious. Being kept away for so long he hasn’t had a chance to experience new things. And whenever he did it always made me laugh with the things he would come out with. He has such a caring side to him that nearly all love interests have but for some reason his just seemed so innocent and loving. A stark contrast to Dez but they matched so well. Okay, so maybe the whole death touch is scary but c’mon, he’s hot! I think my favourite scene with them is the hand holding one, and if you read this book or have read it you will know what I am on about. He is the type of sweetness that makes your heart tighten.

Every character in this book was great, even Dez’s dad because he was so nasty I just hated him and he didn’t even do that much. I need the next book, Toxic, to find out what will happen and I need more of Dez and Kale.

Overall a bloody brilliant read with everything a great book should have!

Review: Bad Taste in Boys by Carrie Harris

Review:

This was a fun and interesting read. I love zombies. I don’t know what it is about them but everyone has a different take and a unique story to tell. This was no exception. I love quick reads because they are fast paced and I have found that post have amusing characters and lines that have you laughing out loud.

So Kate’s got herself into a dilemma because the footballers are going kind of crazy. Zombie Crazy. Thanks to the drugs the coach is giving them she notices the changes and knows she has to stop it. But that’s easier said than done.

There’s quite a lot of action in this book so it was great to read something that wasn’t heavy or too long. Kate was an awesome main character because she was likeable and I love a geek heroine, I can relate to them. She’s a fighter and a brave one too. Let’s say something like this did happen, I’d be pretty pathetic and useless.

Aaron, the supposed love interest, wasn’t in it that much but I guess in a small book like this it’s not really about developing a love story. It’s an action; keep moving forward book, the love part just features. I prefer books that are a bit longer and have deeper emotions but this was fun, which is good every once in a while.

I think everyone will like this and I may just read the next one because everyone needs an easy read from time to time that gets them chuckling.
